Putaway Strategy

Putaway strategies enhance product storage by identifying the suitable storage bin. It helps streamlining the putaway process and improving inventory accuracy.

Manual Entry

In this strategy, the system does not automatically determine the storage bin. A warehouse task is created with a blank storage bin or storage section and storage bin.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Standard warehouse
  • Putaway Rule: Empty bin OR Addition to Existing Stock/ Empty bin
  • Generic WT
    • Storage type, storage section and storage bin
    • Storage type, storage section
    • storage type

When to Use

  • When utilizing temporary storage, it is possible to allocate the storage dynamically.
  • When mixed storage is used, and items need to be staged or stored in a specific area.
  • Products require special storage locations when they are hazardous in nature
  • Products such as fragile and high-value items require careful handling during the putaway process.

General Storage

In a warehouse, a general storage area is designated for storing items that do not have specific location assignments, which helps to utilize the maximum space.

The strategy is utilized by the system to locate a storage bin within a general storage space.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Standard warehouse
  • Putaway Rule: General Storage Area
  • Mixed Storage: Mixed storage without limitations

When to Use

  • This approach is particularly beneficial in warehouses with variable inventory levels.

Fixed Storage Bin

In this strategy, the product is stored in a fixed storage bin.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Standard warehouse
  • Putaway Rule: Addition to Existing Stock/ Empty bin
  • Fixed Bins Allowed: Yes
  • Max. Fixed Bins: (Optional)
  • Addn.Stock Forbidden: Addition to existing stock permitted
  • Capacity Check: Active

When to Use

  • Products that are frequently picked should always be stored in a designated location to ensure consistency and efficiency.

Near Fixed Picking Bin

In this strategy, the system search for a fixed bin in the picking area; if no empty bin is available, then system putaway the product in the nearest fixed area.

The naming conventions for the bin structure should be consistent with those of the picking area storage bin structure.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Standard warehouse
  • Putaway Rule: Addition to Existing Stock/ Empty bin
  • SrchRule EmptyBin: Near to Fixed Bin

When to Use

  • Near fixed picking bins are located close to the picking area to store products when the fixed bin in the picking area overflows.

Addition to Existing Stock

This strategy prioritizes placing inventory in storage bins that already hold stock of the same product.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Standard warehouse
  • Putaway Rule: Addition to Existing Stock/ Empty bin
  • Capacity Check: Active
  • Addn.Stock Forbidden: Allow
  • Mixed Storage: Allow mix storage per requirement

When to Use

  • When a warehouse has space constraints.

Empty Storage Bin

In this strategy, the system searches for completely empty bins.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Standard warehouse
  • Putaway Rule: Empty bin
  • SrchRule EmptyBin: You can also leverage this control parameter.

When to Use

  • A simplified putaway process and handling are necessary.
  • Receiving seasonal and unexpected items
  • Warehouses that are organized randomly.
  • High rack storage and shelf storage.

Bulk Storage

Bulk storage is intended for storing large quantities of products. It determines the bin in the bulk storage.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Bulk Storage
  • Putaway Rule: Addition to Existing Stock/ Empty bin
  • Addn.Stock Forbidden: Addition to existing stock permitted
  • HU Type Check: No
  • Capacity Check: No

Storage Type Control for Bulk Storage

Define Bulk Storage Indicator

Define Bulk Structure

When to Use

  • Products such as drinks and Tyres require more storage space.

Pallet Storage:

The system handles various Handling Unit (HU) types, such as pallets, and assigns them to bin section.

  • In this strategy, the combination of bin type and HU type is defined.
  • When the system conducts the initial putaway of a product into a bin, it establishes the sectioning and assigns it to the storage bin.
  • The system also determines sthe number and type of HUs that can be put away in that bin.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Pallet Storage
  • Putaway Rule: Empty bin
  • Addn.Stock Forbidden: Addition to existing stock permitted
  • HU Type Check: Yes
  • Mixed Storage: Mixed Storage Without Limitations

Define Bin Sections

Perform Bin Sectioning for Bin Type and HU Type

When to Use

  • Autmatic and dynamic sectioning of bins for same type of HU in a bin

Flexible Storage

This strategy allows for the creation of storage bins based on the specific needs of the products being stored.

Pre-requisites

  • Storage behavior: Standard Warehouse
  • Generic WT: Storage Type

Flexible Bin Pattern

When to Use

  • Warehouses that manage a diverse range of products, each with unique size specifications and storage needs.
  • Dynamic bin creation and deletion
  • When custom bin pattern is required
